The purpose of the course is to give participants an opportunity to prepare and practice for the Swedish practical OSCE-exam. Focus lies on enhancing the patient/doctor as well as interprofessional communication skills needed for passing the exam. This will be done mainly through active role-play where each student will take turns being doctor in various stations. Feedback on language, Swedish medical praxis as well as correct medical assessment and evaluation will be given after each role-play and discussed in group format by course instructors. Both 6-min and 14-min stations will be covered in various medical fields, specifically those needed for more complex and in-depth conversations such as: PU (Professionell Utveckling), Psychiatry, General Medicine, Geriatrics, Pediatrics, Oncology, etc. A specific lesson will be held on practicing the stations which are based on interprofessional communication according to SBAR. (Please be aware that practical skills such as various physical examinations, HLR etc will not be covered in this course. Focus lies on the verbal communication skills as well as discussing medical assessment and evaluation.)
As this course is practical in its nature, class presence and active participation is expected from each student. Preparation in-between classes is estimated at approximately between 2-5 hours per week.
